Relationship Between the EULAR/ACR Classification Criteria and Organ Damage in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Lupus. 2023. doi: 10.1177/09612033231153791
Ambispective cohort study concludes that, in addition to disease classification, the EULAR/ACR SLE criteria may have value in predicting prognosis.
Although studies report an association between higher EULAR/ACR SLE score at diagnosis and organ damage (in particular renal), as new manifestations may develop during the course of SLE, the EULAR/ACR criteria score may increase if assessed at different time points.
As such, correlating the EULAR/ACR score at diagnosis and the cumulative organ damage scores at last clinic visit may not reflect their true relationship. To help understand the relationship between the EULAR/ACR SLE criteria score and organ damage accrued over time. Mok, et al. analysed a large group of Chinese patients with SLE, hypothesizing that the two do correlate.
